The Longest Day

Vancouver to Amsterdam

The first “day” of the trip is the longest. We left Vancouver at 7:30 PM Pacific time, and arrived in Amsterdam at 1:00 PM Europe time. Many of the kids got no sleep! As soon as the extra slow baggage carousel started moving we got our luggage and met up with Rens outside . The huge 54 seat bus is as comfy and quiet as the one he regularly drives. We got to the Anne Frank House a little bit late, but they took mercy on us and let us in anyway, with the services of a guide to introduce us to the house. Because the group is so huge, we had to split into two groups, and will have to do this for a lot of the places we go on this trip. We had little time for anything else in Amsterdam except for a drive through Dam Square on the way out of town. If the bus ride on the way to Domburg was any indication, we’ve got a fun group of parents on the trip this year, though one could become weary of the giggling. Perhaps it was just exhaustion. We’re all settled in to our rooms in the Westhove Castle now, and I’m looking forward to our day in Belgium tomorrow.

  1. Wow it seems like you guys are as tired as we were the first day we landed in Germany and had to participate in a scavenger hunt! But trust me, this Europe trip is definately worth every minute of sleep that you will lose. Have a great time in Belgium and make sure you get some chocolate from DUMON, its worth waiting in the line up, trust me ;)! Have fun!
